Course Information
Entry Requirements
A*-B grade in GCSE Photography or A*-B grade in GCSE Media Studies or GCSE Art PLUS a photography portfolio
Equipment Requirements
You need to have a digital camera to do this course, preferably a DSLR. You cannot use the camera on your phone or tablet. You will also need a USB stick to store your photographs onto.
Why study Photography?
The study of Photography will deepen your understanding of the visual world across different times and cultures and introduce you to the diverse roles and functions of Photography in contemporary life. A foundation in this subject can lead to a wide range of career opportunities in the creative industries, an area experiencing great expansion in this country.
Photography is important because all sectors of the job market require creative thinkers who can innovate, see and make connections, solve problems and make informed decisions and judgements. This course will give you many transferable skills you can use in the future.
Career and Progression Opportunities
After completing A-Level Photography, there are several options of what you could do next such as an Art Foundation Course, direct entry into Higher Education or a training or work placement.

Course Information
- This course covers film darkroom photography and digital photography skills.
- You will also experiment with different editing techniques using software such as Adobe Photoshop.
- You will be introduced to studio lighting and set ups.
- Researching photographers, artists and film makers is also a vital part to inform and influence your work.
- Written work is also an assessed part of this course which includes spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Most projects involve producing a sketchbook and a final piece.
- Most photo shoots will done in your own time for homework and lesson time will be spent doing book work and editing skills.
