about us
Roding Valley High School’s Photography Department has a firmly established reputation for running a highly successful Photography course. The GCSE Photography course has been running since September 2007 and every year we have consistently achieved superb results which are well above the National Average:
2016 = 88% A*-C grades
2015 = 92% A*-C grades
2014 = 97% A*-C grades
2013 = 100% A*-C grades
2012 = 100% A*-C grades
2011 = 100% A*-C grades
2010 = 100% A*-C grades
2009 = 93% A*-C grades
Roding Valley opened its first Sixth Form in September 2015 and our first cohort of AS-Level Photography students achieved outstanding results, reaching the top 10% nationally for progress:
2016 AS-Level Photography Results = 100% A*-B grades
Photography is taught within the Art Department where classrooms are large, airy and open plan. We also have a separate gallery space which is used by our A-Level students as well as for exhibitions. Pupils also have access to our photographic studio space with a full set of flash heads. Unlike many other schools which teach photography, we also have a well resourced working darkroom for black and white film photography with 7 enlargers. Students have access to a laptop each for digital editing as well as a colour printer based in the department. A variety of resources are on offer for our photography students to use such as polaroid cameras, film SLR cameras, digital SLR cameras, tripods and film scanners.
Many of our students continue to study Photography following completion of their course at Roding Valley. Much of our success is down to organisation, time management and clear, set deadlines and expectations which students must rigorously adhere to.
